The English translation is as follows: You are as severe as a thunder bolt yet, as tender as a flower bud. O Lord Shiva, holder of the pinaka (bow), I salute You. You are like a silver mountain, carrying a crescent moon on Your head. I know that You imbibe all attributes. You are the controller of both the expressed and the unexpressed worlds and the shelter of all distressed. You are beginningless and beyond the scope of time. Yet, You remain established in all finite objects. I salute You, O ever tranquil one! Even the animals surrender to You! You are the owner of all gems and also the supreme relinquisher of everything. You are as effulgent as a bright emerald. O very seed and primordial force of the universe! Controller of all created beings! I salute You, Lord Shiva. NITYAM' SHUDHAM' NIRABHASAM' NIRAKARAM' NIRANJANAM NITYABODHAM' CIDANANDAM' GURUR BRAHMA NAMAMYAHAM The English Translation is: Eternal, pure, indescribable entity Formless, without blemish Omniscient, Blissful consciousness To guru-Brahman, Supreme Consciousness I offer my salutations This is followed by Guru Vandana, a process of mental surrender of the colours, or attachments, of the mind. A special mantra is repeated while each person offers mental "flowers" that symbolise their attachments, laying them at the 'feet' of Cosmic Consciousness – the Supreme Entity. Verse 1. AKHANDA MANDALAKARAM VYAPTAM YENA CHARACHARAN TATPADAM DARSHITAM YENA TASMAI SHRI GUAVE NAMAH The English Translation ofverse1 is: My Salutations to that Guru who revealed to me that Truth, which is unfragmented, infinite, timeless divinity, and which pervades the entire universe – movable or unmovable. 2. AJYAN TIMIR ANDHASYA JYANANJAN SHALAKAYA CHAKHUR UNMILITAM YENA TASMAI SHRI GURAVE NAMAH The English Translation of verse 2 is: My Salutations to that reverential teacher, who opened my eyes, by applying the divine collyrium of self knowledge to my eyes, which were blinded by ignorance. 3. GURUR BRAHMA GURUR VISHNU, GURUR DEVA MAHESHVARA, GURU REVA PARAMA BRAHMA, TASMAE SHRII GURUVE NAMAH The English Translation ofverse3 is: Guru is none other than the creator (Brahma), sustainer (Vishnu) and destroyer (Shiva). Guru is verily the transcendental divinity, (the timeless life-principle, which is the very essence of the creator etc.) My reverential salutations to that glorious one.

1-1. Shiva shaktyátmakaḿ Brahma. Shiva- ‘consciousness’ Shakti ‘Operative principle’ atmakam ‘composite’, Brahma- ‘cosmos’ or ‘the creation’. Purport: Brahma ‘Creation’ is composed of Consciousness and Operative principle. 1-2. Shaktih Sá Shivasya Shaktih. [Shakti (the Operative Principle) resides within Shiva or ‘consciousness’.] 1-3. Tayoh siddhih saiṋcare pratisaiṋcare ca. [Their fulfilment is expressed through saiṋcara (extroversial movement) and pratisaiṋcara (introversial movement.] 1-4. Paramashivah Puruśottamah vishvasya kendram. [‘Supreme Consciousness at the nucleus of the universe is known as Paramashiva or Puruśottama.] 1-5. Pravrttimukhii saiṋcarah guńadháráyám. [Saiṋcara (in the Cosmic Cycle) under the increasing influence of the guńas (binding principles) results in gradual extroversial movement.] 1-6.Nivrttimukhi Pratisaiṋcarah guńavaskayena [Pratisaiṋcara, on the other hand is the gradual introversal movement towards ‘consciousness’ under the waning influence of the guńas (binding principles).] 1-7. Drk Puruśah Darshanam Shaktishca [Puruśah is ‘the witness of all that transpires’ and Prakrti is the ‘act of witnessing’] 1-8. Guńabandhanena Guńabhivtaktih [The guńas (binding principles) find fulfilment in their expression during the cosmic cycle. 1-9. Guńádhikye jaďasphoťah bhūtasamyábhávát [Due to the excess pressures of the gunas, proper balance in the five fundamental factors is lost and the crude solid factor explodes] 1-10. Guńáprabhávena bhūtauṋgharśádbálám [By means of influence of the gunas, clash within the five fundamental factors occurs and bala, or energy, is created] 1-11 Dehakendrikáńi parińńámabhútáni baláni práńáh [The resultant interial force forming the nucleus within the physical structure, and maintaining its solidarity, is called pranah or ‘vital energy’.] 1-12 Tiivrasauṋgharśeńa cúrńiibhútáni jaďáni cittáńu mánasadhátuh vá [Due to excessive clash, some of the crude factor is pulverised and ectoplasmic particles or mind stuff is evolved]. 1-13 Vyástidehe cittánusamaváyena cittabodhah By means of combination of ectoplasmic particles in the unit structure, the feeling of citta or objectivity evolves. 1-14 Cittát guńavakśaye rajoguńaprábalye aham By the waning of the binding principles and the dominance of the mutative force, the aham, or ego, evolves from the citta. 1-15 Súksmábhimukhinii gatirudaye ahaḿtáttvánmahat With further movement towards the subtle, mahat is evolved from ahamtattva 1-16. Cittádahaḿprábalye buddhi When aham is dominant over citta, intellect evolves 1-17Ahaḿtattvát mahadprábalye bodhih When mahat is dominant over aham, intuition evolves 1-18 Mahadahaḿvarjite anagrasare jiivedehe latágulme kevalaḿ cittam In undeveloped living structures, creepers and shrubs devoid of mahat and aham, there is only citta 1-19 Mahadvarjite anagrasare jiivadehe latágulme cittayuktáham In undeveloped living structures, creepers and shrubs devoid of mahat, there is aham along with citta 1-20 Prágrasare jiive latágulme mánuśe mahadahaḿcittáni In developed living entities, creepers and shrubs, as well as humans, there is mahat, aham and citta. 1-21 Bhúmávyápte mahati ahaḿcittayorprańáshe saguńásthitih savikalpasamádhih vá When aham and citta are reconverted into mahat, the merger is called savikalpa samadhi ‘the stance of determinate absorption’, absorption into the qualified state 1-22 A’tmani mahadprańáshe nirguńásthitih nirvikalpasámadhi vá When mahat is reconverted into the Atman the resultant state is called nirvikalpa samadhi or ‘stance of indeterminate absorption’, complete dissolution of mind 1-23 Tasya sthitih amánasikeśu This state of nirvikalpa samadhi is beyond the mind 1-24 Abhávottaránandapratyayálambaniirvrttih tasya pramáńam The bliss which follows the void is the proof of this state, the means of firm belief in this state 1-25 Bháva-bhávátiitayoh setuh Tárakabrahma The bridge between Nirguna and Saguna Brahma is called Taraka Brahma or ‘liberating Brahma’

'Dharmacakra' begins with devotional songs such as Prabhata Samgiita ‘songs of the new dawn’, composed by P.R.Sarkar. The first one is titled Vajra Kathora (no 1565).
Kiirtan
Next we sing Kiirtan, with the 'Baba nam kevalam' mantra, given by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti on 8 Oct 1970. Baba means ‘deepest inner self’, ‘supreme consciousness’, ‘most beloved’, 'nam' means ‘only, ‘surrrender’, ‘name or vibration’, and 'kevalam' means ‘only’, ‘everything’, 'Supreme Consciousness is all there is’ or ‘the name of the Beloved only’.
Following kiirtan there is the Rk Vedic chant 'Samgaccadvam', song of unity, which is sung three times before beginning meditation. After collective meditation the following mantra is repeated:Nityam Shudam and Guru Vandana ‘offering of the colours of the mind’ also sung three times. After Guru Vandana we have Dharma Shastra, a reading on a spiritual topic. In this case, I have composed the music to Ananda Sutram (Chapter 1) or the Cycle of Creation, and underneath each sutra there is a brief translation.
